  <title>Separated</title>
  <description>ynopsis: In our world there is so much pain and despair that it could cause someone to feel as if God isn't there or that God doesn't care. Paul reminds us in Romans that nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus. 

Scripture: Romans 8: 35-39 

35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? 
36 As it is written: &quot;For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.&quot; 
37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 
38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 
39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

  <title>Whatever It Takes</title>
  <description>Synopsis: True love is not measured by the gifts one gives but by their true willingness to go the distance with others. As we celebrate Father's Day, we celebrate men who have gone the distance in love with those who are blessed to be in their presence.

Scripture: John 4: 46-54 (NRSV)

46 Then he came again to Cana in Galilee where he had changed the water into wine. Now there was a royal official whose son lay ill in Capernaum.
47 When he heard that Jesus had come from Judea to Galilee, he went and begged him to come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death.
48 Then Jesus said to him, &quot;Unless you see signs and wonders you will not believe.&quot;
49 The official said to him, &quot;Sir, come down before my little boy dies.&quot;
50 Jesus said to him, &quot;Go; your son will live.&quot; The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and started on his way.
51 As he was going down, his slaves met him and told him that his child was alive.
52 So he asked them the hour when he began to recover, and they said to him, &quot;Yesterday at one in the afternoon the fever left him.&quot;
53 The father realized that this was the hour when Jesus had said to him, &quot;Your son will live.&quot; So he himself believed, along with his whole household.

…. 37Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and to the other apostles, Brothers and Sisters, what do we do? 38Peter said to them, ‘Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ so that your sins may be forgiven; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Synopsis: Moses was approaching burnout and leadership frustration. Sensing his frustration, his father-in-law had a heart to heart with him and shared the wisdom of delegation. In our lives we have to be careful to be careful and always make sure we don't creep towards burnout and frustration. As we seek to save the world from global warming and utter disaster, we have to begin with ourselves.

Text: Exodus 18: 13-23

13 The next day Moses took his seat to serve as judge for the people, and they stood around him from morning till evening.
14 When his father-in-law saw all that Moses was doing for the people, he said, &quot;What is this you are doing for the people? Why do you alone sit as judge, while all these people stand around you from morning till evening?&quot;
15 Moses answered him, &quot;Because the people come to me to seek God's will.
16 Whenever they have a dispute, it is brought to me, and I decide between the parties and inform them of God's decrees and laws.&quot;
17 Moses' father-in-law replied, &quot;What you are doing is not good.
18 You and these people who come to you will only wear yourselves out. The work is too heavy for you; you cannot handle it alone.
19 Listen now to me and I will give you some advice, and may God be with you. You must be the people's representative before God and bring their disputes to him.
20 Teach them the decrees and laws, and show them the way to live and the duties they are to perform.
21 But select capable men from all the people-- men who fear God, trustworthy men who hate dishonest gain-- and appoint them as officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties and tens.
22 Have them serve as judges for the people at all times, but have them bring every difficult case to you; the simple cases they can decide themselves. That will make your load lighter, because they will share it with you.

36 For some time ago Theudas rose up, claiming to be somebody, and a number of men, about four hundred, joined him; but he was killed, and all who followed him were dispersed and disappeared.
37 After him Judas the Galilean rose up at the time of the census and got people to follow him; he also perished, and all who followed him were scattered.
38 So in the present case, I tell you, keep away from these men and let them alone; because if this plan or this undertaking is of human origin, it will fail;
39 but if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them-- in that case you may even be found fighting against God!&quot; They were convinced by him,
40 and when they had called in the apostles, they had them flogged. Then they ordered them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.

Synopsis: Jesus' disciples were placed on trial and treated as criminals. One wise person suggested that if the disciples' purpose is of human origin it will fail but if their purpose is from God it will be a success. Whenever we are aligned with God's plan winning is always the outcome.

Synopsis: After Jesus fed more than five thousand people, He immediately went to a mountainside alone to pray. After He prayed, He rescued His disciples from the violent sea by walking towards them on the water. Jesus reminds us that no matter how well things are going we have to retreat to replenish ourselves. As we prepare to graduate we have to invest in ourselves so we can be prepared for the next level.

  <description>Scripture:

John 12: 9-11
9 Meanwhile a large crowd of Jews found out that Jesus was there and came, not only because of him but also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead.
10 So the chief priests made plans to kill Lazarus as well,
11 for on account of him many of the Jews were going over to Jesus and putting their faith in him.

Synopsis:

Jesus was eating at the home of Lazarus “whom Jesus had raised from the dead.” While there, crowds began to gather and many became followers of Jesus. There were also those who became upset and plotted to kill Jesus and Lazarus as well. In most cases, it is not good to be guilty by association but in this case, it was a testimony to Lazarus’ witness and faith in Jesus Christ.

  <title>Transfer [audio]</title>

Abraham is known for many miraculous deads and faith expeditions. He is less known for moments when he did not believe and trust God. It is interesting to see how Abraham's son Isaac behaved similar to his father. 

Scripture: Genesis 20: 1-3; 8-12 / Genesis 26: 4-9 (NIV)

Gen. 20: 1-3;8-12: 
1 Now Abraham moved on from there into the region of the Negev and lived between Kadesh and Shur. For a while he stayed in Gerar,
2 and there Abraham said of his wife Sarah, &quot;She is my sister.&quot; Then Abimelech king of Gerar sent for Sarah and took her.
3 But God came to Abimelech in a dream one night and said to him, &quot;You are as good as dead because of the woman you have taken; she is a married woman.&quot; 8 Early the next morning Abimelech summoned all his officials, and when he told them all that had happened, they were very much afraid.
9 Then Abimelech called Abraham in and said, &quot;What have you done to us? How have I wronged you that you have brought such great guilt upon me and my kingdom? You have done things to me that should not be done.&quot;

  <title>What Do I Do with Me [audio]</title>
  <description>Synopsis: In spite of my best efforts, I sometimes fall short as it relates to me. In the movie, the character was in search of his true story. While on the journey to discover himself he had to confront the best and worst of his story.

Scripture: Romans 7: 14-25 (The Message)

14-16 I can anticipate the response that is coming: &quot;I know that all God's commands are spiritual, but I'm not. Isn't this also your experience?&quot; Yes. I'm full of myselfâ€”after all, I've spent a long time in sin's prison. What I don't understand about myself is that I decide one way, but then I act another, doing things I absolutely despise. So if I can't be trusted to figure out what is best for myself and then do it, it becomes obvious that God's command is necessary.

17-20 But I need something more! For if I know the law but still can't keep it, and if the power of sin within me keeps sabotaging my best intentions, I obviously need help! I realize that I don't have what it takes. I can will it, but I can't do it. I decide to do good, but I don't really do it; I decide not to do bad, but then I do it anyway. My decisions, such as they are, don't result in actions. Something has gone wrong deep within me and gets the better of me every time.

21-23 It happens so regularly that it's predictable. The moment I decide to do good, sin is there to trip me up. I truly delight in God's commands, but it's pretty obvious that not all of me joins in that delight. Parts of me covertly rebel, and just when I least expect it, they take charge.

24 I've tried everything and nothing helps. I'm at the end of my rope. Is there no one who can do anything for me? Isn't that the real question?

25 The answer, thank God, is that Jesus Christ can and does. He acted to set things right in this life of contradictions where I want to serve God with all my heart and mind, but am pulled by the influence of sin to do something totally different.

  <title>I AM Legend Movie Roll-In [audio]</title>
  <description>A woman creates a cure for cancer by altering the measels virus, but it backfires. Three years later, everyone cured are now dead or &quot;infected&quot; (becoming zombies). Will Smith's character, Robert Neville, is immune to the virus and one of the few people alive to try to find a cure. 
-In the highlighted scene, he is discovered by a woman and a boy who are also not infected. She tells him that God has directed her to him and that she knows there's a light at the end of the tunnel. He doesn't believe in God. (END OF SCENE) 
-The conclusion is that he creates the cure, saves it in a vial and gives it to the woman who will go on to locate the &quot;better place&quot; just like God told her, and save humanity, but he loses his life in the process. 
-In the movie, Nevell is considered the Legend because he gave his life for humanity, but in actuality, SHE is also a legend because she believed God's plan and followed it.</description>

  <description>Synopsis: The recent election of Obama confirmed the hope of many who waited for the possibility of equality in America. The Hebrew writer speaks of those who waited and did not see the promise yet believed the promise would come to pass.

Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. 
2 This is what the ancients were commended for. 
3 By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible. 
13 All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance. And they admitted that they were aliens and strangers on earth. 
14 People who say such things show that they are looking for a country of their own. 
15 If they had been thinking of the country they had left, they would have had opportunity to return. 
16 Instead, they were longing for a better country-- a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.

  <title>Unravel [audio]</title>
  <description>Synopsis: Simetimes life unravells and totally comes apart. The wheels fall off, the relationship breaks up, the friends dies and life dissappoints. Life unravelled is life lived for many people today. In the text Paul and Silas' ministry anf future unravelled before their eyes.

Scripture: Acts 16: 19-26 (NIV)

19 When the owners of the slave girl realized that their hope of making money was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace to face the authorities.
20 They brought them before the magistrates and said, &quot;These men are Jews, and are throwing our city into an uproar
21 by advocating customs unlawful for us Romans to accept or practice.&quot;
22 The crowd joined in the attack against Paul and Silas, and the magistrates ordered them to be stripped and beaten.
23 After they had been severely flogged, they were thrown into prison, and the jailer was commanded to guard them carefully.
24 Upon receiving such orders, he put them in the inner cell and fastened their feet in the stocks.

  <title>Let's Face it: Safe [audio]</title>
  <description>Synopsis: For many years this text has been used to combat homosexuality but in our haste to disprove homosexuality, we have overlooked a critical issue. The issue is child abuse. Lot was willing to allow his daughters to be abused and misused. Child abuse is still a serious problem in our world today. 

Scripture: Genesis 19: 1-10 (NIV) 

NIV Genesis 19:1 The two angels arrived at Sodom in the evening, and Lot was sitting in the gateway of the city. When he saw them, he got up to meet them and bowed down with his face to the ground. 
2 &quot;My lords,&quot; he said, &quot;please turn aside to your servant's house. You can wash your feet and spend the night and then go on your way early in the morning.&quot; &quot;No,&quot; they answered, &quot;we will spend the night in the square.&quot; 
3 But he insisted so strongly that they did go with him and entered his house. He prepared a meal for them, baking bread without yeast, and they ate. 
4 Before they had gone to bed, all the men from every part of the city of Sodom-- both young and old-- surrounded the house.

16 the water from upstream stopped flowing. It piled up in a heap a great distance away, at a town called Adam in the vicinity of Zarethan, while the water flowing down to the Sea of the Arabah (the Salt Sea) was completely cut off. So the people crossed over opposite Jericho.
17 The priests who carried the ark of the covenant of the LORD stood firm on dry ground in the middle of the Jordan, while all Israel passed by until the whole nation had completed the crossing on dry ground.

15 Now the Jordan is at flood stage all during harvest. Yet as soon as the priests who carried the ark reached the Jordan and their feet touched the water's edge,
16 the water from upstream stopped flowing. It piled up in a heap a great distance away, at a town called Adam in the vicinity of Zarethan, while the water flowing down to the Sea of the Arabah (the Salt Sea) was completely cut off. So the people crossed over opposite Jericho.
17 The priests who carried the ark of the covenant of the LORD stood firm on dry ground in the middle of the Jordan, while all Israel passed by until the whole nation had completed the crossing on dry ground.

This way, love has the run of the house, becomes at home and mature in us, so that we're free of worry on Judgment Dayâ€”our standing in the world is identical with Christ's. There is no room in love for fear. Well-formed love banishes fear. Since fear is crippling, a fearful lifeâ€”fear of death, fear of judgmentâ€”is one not yet fully formed in love.
